There are thousands of places that allow dogs. The Dog Friendly Guide exists because allowing a dog through the door and creating a place worth spending time in are not the same thing.
We are interested in the second kind: places with atmosphere, character and a natural sense of welcome. Somewhere we would choose even without Coco - and enjoy more because Coco can be there too.
Beauty matters
We notice the details. The light. The chairs. The music. The way a room feels at eleven in the morning. A place does not need to be expensive or polished, but it should have a point of view.
Welcome has to feel genuine
A dog-friendly sign is useful. A relaxed member of staff, a sensible table and a bowl of water offered without ceremony are better. We look for places where bringing your dog does not feel like asking for a favour.
We think about the whole moment
A beautiful café can be difficult with a dog if there is nowhere to settle. A hotel can photograph perfectly and still make every practical detail complicated. We pay attention to how a place actually works when you arrive together.
Would we go back? Would we recommend it to a friend? Would we be happy to spend an unhurried hour there with Coco? If the answer is not yes, it does not belong in the Guide.
Curated, not crowded
That means our lists will always be shorter than they could be. We are comfortable with that. The value is not in giving you more options. It is in helping you choose well.
